This is what a kitchen table looks like. I thought while mine was free of miniatures for 5 minutes I'd share this pic for those of you who never get to see one. 😂
I used to be a perfectionist. I loved everything neat and orderly. It gave me a sense of control and peace amidst all the organized perfectness. I grew up with a mother that kept the house so clean you could literally eat off the floors. It was second nature to me; and I felt a calm when everything was in place, but I also prioritized cleaning ahead of my family and ahead of living life. I would literally spend Friday night or Saturday cleaning house instead of living, and God forbid company showing up without the house perfect. Well, and then miniatures came into my life, and things changed. I've learned to live in an entirely different environment. I've learned that it's OK if I leave a dollhouse on the kitchen table for a month as long as I make it to my grandson's soccer game and my granddaughter's softball game. I've learned that it's OK to have totes of miniatures sitting in the living room as my husband and I walk out the door to have dinner with beloved friends. I've learned it's OK not to be perfect if being perfect means I miss the real things that matter in life.
Sure there are miniaturists who have these nice, neat and tidy workspaces. They are probably crazy people, or from another planet, but they do exist. 😂 This hobby allows us to incorporate so many different forms of crafting, creating, and true artistry but, sometimes it's like life, messy...and that's OK!
The joy that comes from this simple and pure hobby is invaluable. It's life altering. It's joy bringing. It's filled with talent that is mind blowing, from people who can do the most detailed of woodworking to people that turn trash into treasures. It's filled with a community of loving and amazing people who are there to undergird and support you even if you're making chairs out of bottle caps and coat hangers. It's filled with a community of people that don't expect you to be perfect, and that is freeing.
A little bit of love,
Lisa
